Fire engineering consultancy

Clear fire advice, from concept to handover.

PyroInsight Ltd supports design teams and dutyholders with fire strategies, fire engineering and fire risk assessments — written so the architecture, the contractor and the approving authority can all use them.

Services

Five ways we support a project.

Appoint us for a single report or across the design programme. Scope is agreed up front, against the stage, the building and the decision that needs to be made.

01

RIBA Stage 2–6 design support

Fire input that moves with the design: principles at concept, a coordinated strategy at spatial and technical design, then review and handover information while the building is built.

  • Concept comments before layouts harden
  • Coordination with architect, structural and MEP teams
  • Design queries, substitutions and construction-stage review
  • Handover information aligned to the built scheme
02

Fire strategies

A staged fire strategy covering means of escape, compartmentation, external fire spread, firefighting access and the fire safety systems the design relies on.

03

Fire engineering

Where a code route is a poor fit, a performance-based approach with a clear basis of design, assumptions and the evidence an approver will expect to see.

04

General consultancy

Independent review, technical queries, planning-stage fire statements and pre-acquisition commentary for clients who need a second reading of the fire position.

05

Fire risk assessments

Suitable and sufficient assessments for occupied premises, with a prioritised action plan. Distinct from a design fire strategy for a new or altered building.

RIBA Plan of Work

What changes at each stage.

The strategy should thicken as the design does. Early advice keeps escape, compartment lines and firefighting access from becoming late constraints.

02

Concept design

Fire strategy principles set against the brief, occupancy and site. Enough to test the plan, not a finished report.

03

Spatial coordination

The strategy coordinated with architecture, structure and services: stairs, lobbies, travel distances, risers and firefighting access.

04

Technical design

A fire strategy suitable for coordination and submission, with comments on fire resistance, cavity barriers, doors and service penetrations.

05

Manufacturing and construction

Review of fire-related details and product substitutions, so the building being built still matches the strategy that was agreed.

06

Handover

An as-built update and the fire safety information the occupier and the responsible person need to take the building on.

Approach

Proportionate, coordinated, and written to be used.

1
Matched to the building

A house conversion and a mixed-use block do not need the same report. The route — Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999 or a performance case — follows the risk, not a template.

2
Useful to the design team

Comments are tied to drawings and decisions: what is accepted, what must change, and what is still an assumption.

3
Traceable at handover

The version that leaves site should describe the building that was built, so the golden thread does not stop at technical design.

New buildResidential, commercial and mixed-use schemes.
Existing buildingsRefurbishment, change of use and occupied premises.

Tell us the stage and the question.

A short note on the building, the RIBA stage and what you need decided is enough to scope a fee. This page is not itself a fire strategy or a fire risk assessment.
